Cleaning heat exchangers

In the operation of biogas plants, regular cleaning of the heat exchangers is an important component that is often neglected. However, heat exchangers play an integral role in the plant’s energy efficiency, its service life and ultimately its profitability. In continuous operation, deposits, limescale and sludge can build up in a matter of months, caused by calcium, rust, suspended matter and organic substances collecting and adhering to the surface of the heat exchanger. These residues cause the transfer of heat to deteriorate rapidly and reduce your heat exchanger’s performance. The result: temperature increases, and overheating can damage material by causing it to fatigue. Deposits also impede flow. This means that more power is needed from the pumps in order to maintain sufficient throughput.
Costly repairs, long downtime and expensive change of soiled heat exchangers can be avoided by the comparatively inexpensive, and above all plannable, cleaning and re-use of components.
